Meanwhile, several complications are hampering the implementation of the Riyadh agreement, in addition to its rejection by some southern forces, including what was declared by the Supreme Council of the Southern Movement, which rejected the agreement “globally” on August 2 and reported protests in defense of the demand for separation and restoration of the southern Yemeni state. StC Vice President Hani Ben Brik said on Twitter that the suspension of negotiations by the STC was in protest at the “irresponsible behavior of the parties” towards the Riyadh agreement and was necessary for it to fully commit to the agreement. CAIRO (Reuters) – South Yemeni separatists have suspended their participation in consultations on a power-sharing agreement for the south, known as the “Riyadh agreement,” he said in a statement from the Southern Transitional Council (STC) on Tuesday. RIAD: Government and separatist forces continued to deploy troops in southern Yemen on Sunday as part of a Saudi-brokered deal. The agreement was signed after Saudi Arabia opened negotiations on August 11, 2019, after STC Hadi drove loyalists out of Aden and other southern regions. This section describes the main points of the agreement.1 Little love has been lost between Hadi`s government and the United Arab Emirates (United Arab Emirates), where, among others, Ahmed Saleh, the son of the late President Ali Abdullah Saleh, considered by some to be the heir to his father`s post, has lost little love. When the deal was signed in Riyadh, many of Hadi`s supporters used social media and interviews to turn their discontent and suspicions about the UAE`s intentions a step forward. On Friday, Saudi Arabia`s ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jaber, said the Riyadh agreement would “respect peace, security and stability” and that the Yemeni people would “reap the benefits of the agreement.” The agreement provides for different procedures for the commissioning of public institutions, the most important of which are the chairman of the Coordination Committee for the Redistribution of Lt. Gen. (Ret`d) Abhijit Guha said: “There has been significant progress, but challenges persist, including periodic violence that undermines the spirit of the Hodeidah agreement.” The provision that ministerial positions in the new unity government should be divided equally between the North and the Southerners pleases the STC, but makes Hadi hesitate, as it ties his hands and reduces his overall control over his government. Despite Hadi`s general reluctance to give ministerial positions to forces he does not control, he has been repeatedly driven out of Aden, most recently by the STC in April 2020, just months after the Riyadh agreement was signed.
